Why Did You Want To Be A Silhouette Awards Mentor?

Lighting Design is a specialist profession with a minority of people working in this industry globally. I decided to study Light and Lighting at the Bartlett with the thought of working as an Interior Architect with a specialist knowledge in Lighting post-graduation. I never knew lighting design industry existed as such. After graduation, there were many work opportunities with lighting manufacturers, specialist lighting companies and construction companies, from which I had to choose from. The selection of the company prototype shapes the development of your knowledge and exposure, you get within the industry. As there is hardly any information available online, on the lighting career path, I want to help emerging lighting professionals to understand their core values and interests in lighting and decide on their career paths accordingly.

With international work experience (UK, Middle East, Germany, USA) in lighting design for various companies like AECOM, a big construction company, Zumtobel, one of the biggest lighting manufacturers worldwide, Banks Landl Lighting Design, a specialist lighting design firm, Light Dew my own consultancy, I believe to have understood the industry in a broad context. My experience within the industry at different country level has given me the confidence to answer questions and mentor emerging designers to understand their core values and interests in lighting design and shape their career path accordingly.
