Mariel Fuentes

Mariel is Co-founder, Lighting Designer and Architect at MMAS Lighting.

Mariel completed her architectural and urbanism studies in 1998 at Universidad de Chile, and later completed a Master´s Degree in Interior Design at Universidad de Salamanca in Spain. She specializes Architectural Lighting design.

After working 11 years in other studios, in 2016 she founded LDLuz – Lighting Design a Barcelona based office dedicated to architecture and lighting design. In 2021 she merged with Michela Mezzavilla, co-founding MMAS Lighting Design. In her carrier she designed all sorts of lighting projects: from big assignments for architects such as Toyo-ito, RCR and Philip Stark among others, to very careful, specific and customized projects with high levels of exigency, or designs of ephemeral artistic lighting pieces. Currently she is a professional member of IALD, international association of Lighting Design and Board Member of the Professional Association of Lighting Designers in Spain -APDI- and combines her work in lighting design with teaching at UPC – Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya, BAU- Centro Universitario de Diseño of Barcelona and IED Barcelona- Escola superior de Disseny. Mariel has extensive local and international experience working in hospitality, restaurants, retail, exhibitions, and residential projects, among other typologies, all in collaboration with teams from multiple areas and disciplines.
