Mariana Novaes

Architect and urban planner (2003), Mariana Novaes holds a postgraduate degree in Ergonomics (2005) and a master’s degree in Architectural Lighting Design (2009) from the Lighting Laboratory at KTH – Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.

She received the “40 Under 40 Lighting” award in 2018. After collaborating with firms in Brazil and Singapore, she founded Atiaîa Lighting Design in 2016, an independent, award-winning studio based in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais, Brazil).

At Atiaîa, Mariana seeks to contribute to people’s well-being and quality of life through multidisciplinary collaboration, leading the team on architectural lighting design projects of high technical and symbolic complexity across diverse scales and typologies.

She is a member of AsBAI (Brazilian Association of Architectural Lighting), having served on its board of directors from 2014 to 2019 and collaborated with the international committee of EILD (Ibero-American Lighting Design Meeting). She is part of Coletivo Levante, supports the project AnP (Arquitetura na Periferia), and participates in the Women in Lighting Brazil movement, in addition to speaking at national and international events.
