Holds a Licentiate Degree in Architecture at La Salle Escuela Mexicana de Arquitectura y Diseño Gráfico first introduced to lighting while working as an interior architect. Miguel Angel started as a lighting designer for Starco Iluminación in the early 2000 where he attended seminars in Europe, he later worked as head of design for Gustavo Aviles.

In 2003 founded his own studio 1er [DIA] , now established in San Miguel de Allende. With projects: residential lighting design, landscape, public spaces, monuments, retail, museum among other types over Mexico and USA.

Attended lighting, design and lighting control seminars and workshops in Germany, USA, Italy and México. Active lecturer and writer about his process and his vision of light and design.
Associate Member of IES in 2003 and professional member since 2012, became a IALD Associate Member in 2017.
Has participated as an international guest head of design in the International Workshop Lights in Alingsås in Sweden.

First awarded in 2009 received an Award of Merit for his project Plaza Civica by the Illuminating Engineering Society. Most recently has been recipient of:
