Dan Lister

Dan is a Director at Arup and is the UKIMEA Lighting Practice Leader. Having joined Arup as a graduate electrical engineer at the turn of the millennium, Dan developed a keen interest in all aspects of lighting design, undertaking a part-time MSc in Light and Lighting at the Bartlett graduating in 2008.

Dan led the growth of a specialist lighting offering in a regional office before becoming leader of the UK lighting practice in 2023.

With 25 years of lighting consultancy experience, Dan expertly blends creativity and technical skill in both natural and electric lighting across various sectors. Recognised as a leader in lighting design/consultancy, he has contributed to numerous projects big and small, nationally and internationally.

Along the way Dan has lead teams on a number of award-winning projects, most notably for the University of Sheffield Concourse, a project that was awarded the 2020 IALD Radiance Award for Excellence in 2020.

Alongside his work, Dan has actively supported the Society of Light and Lighting, serving as the current Immediate Past-President. He is committed to developing new talent and training future lighting designers, always willing to share his expertise.
