Susanna Antico

Susanna Antico, an architect with expertise in urban planning and sociology, brings a multidisciplinary approach to architectural lighting design.
A graduate with honours from the Hoger Architectuur Instituut van de Stad Gent in Belgium, Susanna has specialized as an Architectural Lighting Design Consultant since 1995. She founded and directed the "Susanna Antico Lighting Design Studio" in Milan, Italy, leading the practice from 1995 to 2023.
Susanna’s work spans architectural, artistic, urban, and environmental lighting projects. Her primary focus has been creating sustainable nocturnal identities for buildings and cities, advocating for a human-centric scale in lighting design. Her belief that quality visibility transcends mere luminance values has earned her accolades and success in numerous design competitions in Italy and Belgium.
Notable projects include the Lighting Masterplans for the historic centers of Bruges, Antwerp, Hasselt, Mechelen, Kortrijk, and several surrounding towns. Her work has influenced public administrations, leading to over 50 urban lighting projects recognized in publications across Italy and abroad. These projects reflect her conviction that lighting enhances the liveability of cities, transforming urban spaces through thoughtful design.
From 2015 to 2020, Susanna taught the Urban Lighting module in the Masters’ program for Lighting Design & LED Technology at the Politecnico di Milano. She is currently a Guest Professor at the School of Arts in Ghent, Belgium.
A committed advocate for independent architectural lighting design, Susanna has actively contributed to organizations like ELDA, PLDA, APIL, and IALD. In 2024, she co-founded LOOMIT srl with Samuel Vespo, continuing her mission to innovate and inspire in the field of architectural lighting design.
