Vasiliki Malakasi

Vasiliki is an award-winning lighting designer with 20 years of experience in lighting.
She graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2004 and she is a practicing architect and member of TEE in Greece since 2005. Lighting design started as an area of academic interest and soon gave her a new professional direction.
In 2006, following her MSc in Light and Lighting at the Bartlett, UCL, she joined Arup Lighting in London. Notable projects while at Arup include; the Acropolis Museum, Dublin Airport – Terminal 2, Dongdaemun Design Park & Plaza, Tate Modern Extension, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre in Athens.
In July 2013, Vasiliki moved from a senior lighting designer role at Arup to establish her own independent consultancy, Idea Design with clients including the Rothschild family office and the Rothschild Foundation. During the 2016 Lighting Design Awards in London Vasiliki was voted by her peers in the 40 Under 40 list for up-and-coming lighting professionals.
In June 2017 she joined Equation, a well-established London based lighting practice as an Associate Director looking after the design team and a wide range of high-profile clients & projects. Notable project while at Equation include residential, educational and commercial developments such as 60 Curzon Street in Mayfair, Borough Yards at London Bridge, Thames City – Nine Elms, Islington Square, Houlton School in Rugby.
Since July 2020 Vasiliki is operating through Idea Design with offices in London, Athens and Lefkada. Idea Design is an independent lighting design practice with no commercial affiliations to the manufacturing industry. Vasiliki is a Professional IALD member and has been active with the IALD Membership, IALD AWARDS, LIRC, other committees and for a number of years has been a judge in various design and lighting design awards.
