Maria Güell Ordis
Maria is a lighting designer and scenographer, driven by a profound fascination with designing elements that give deep meaning to a space without physically occupying it, Maria began her professional career by designing lighting for stage performances.
In 2002, she channeled this expertise into founding La Invisible, an independent lighting design lab studio based in Barcelona. Under her leadership, the studio has grown into a collaborative hub dedicated to researching, experimenting, and executing innovative lighting solutions for diverse spaces such as museums, offices, and architectural environments. Her design philosophy treats light as a fluid material that interacts dynamically with its physical surroundings, aiming for maximum visual significance with minimal structural intervention.
Her work bridges the gap between architectural functionality and emotional atmosphere through the art of light, and beyond her practice at La Invisible, Maria Güell is a key figure in the lighting design community and academia. She has served for more than 10 years as the Head Curator of Llum BCN, a prominent festival celebrating light arts in Barcelona. Dedicated to fostering the next generation of designers, she co-directs the Master’s Program in Architectural Lighting Design at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and works as a lecturer at many other renowned design schools.
