Marc Juarez, master in Project management, innovation director, vice chair of the association for vertical farming, professor at the UPC Barcelona and LED passionate since more than 15 years
His vast experience in multiple lighting roles spans more than 15 years. He often says he was “born with LED lighting,” a journey that began after a trip to China in 2008. Initially seeking solar panels for Spain’s booming industry, he discovered LED technology in the form of a bulb. This discovery led him to start a LED lighting firm in Spain called LEDsPRO. The firm’s objective was to replace old lighting technology with LEDs, but this was never a simple 1-to-1 replacement; lighting design was always needed to adapt the new technology to real-world applications. After a challenging first year dealing with many issues related to imported products, the firm began designing and developing its own lighting products. LEDsPRO quickly became a reference in the Spanish market and was acquired by the French company Lucibel in 2012. Over the years, he took on various roles in R&D, product development, coaching, mentoring and sales business development. Today, he serves as the Innovation Director in Europe for a company valued at $1 billion among other responsibilities. Some of the great projects developed are the Sun simulator for the ETH Zurich, the Reina Sofia Museum, Ikea Nymane lamps and introducing the Sunlike healthy light in 2017 into the market.
